Home Safety Month

Home Safety Month

June is recognized as Home Safety Month, so now is a great time to take a look at how your home safety measures up.

According to the National Safety Council (NSC), unintentional injuries result on average $21 million medical visits each year, adding up to about $220 billion spent in medical costs. The top leading causes of home injury include falls, poisonings, fires and burns, choking/suffocation, and drowning.

There are a number of things you can do to stay safe and prevent injuries in your home such as installing smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, child safety locks, fire extinguishers and keeping a first aid kit in your home.

Conducting a home safety check can go a long way in helping prevent problems that could lead to a fall, or other injury. Use this Home Safety checklist, provided by the American College of Emergency Physicians, to learn how to make your home hazard-free.

Everyone can have a happy, healthy home. Please spread the word about ways to reduce the risk of injuries.
